It is our desire that every member of Redeemer be a member of a Growth Group.  Growth Groups are small groups of 10-15 adults that meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month in the homes of our members throughout the metro Jackson area.

Our primary goal for both Growth Groups and Wednesday Night Fellowship is to experience Christ in our midst in His presence and power.  We want Him to be at work by His Spirit ministering to us and through us to one another to the end that people are cared for and encouraged to live God-pleasing lives.  We want Christ to transform and change our lives.

Even though each group will have its own personality and will differ some in the make-up of its membership, groups will follow the same basic schedule, generally meeting from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. A typical meeting will usually include a time of greeting and worship, Bible study, a time of sharing, and a time for kingdom-centered prayer.  The Bible study will be centered on the prior week’s sermon to allow us to better apply the Word of God to our lives.

We believe that involvement in a Growth Group is crucial for the spiritual maturity of every member of Redeemer, and it will be beneficial in finding one’s place of service in our church family.

Growth groups serve as the small group ministry of Redeemer Church. However, they are much more. They form the matrix of communion with God and other believers. Whether you have been part of one for years or you are new to this ministry, we encourage you to join a group this fall and consider who else you can invite.

Here are three reasons to join a growth group:

• The Church isn’t a place; it’s people.
When you mention the word “church,” people often think of a building with a steeple. But church isn’t a place to attend, it’s who you are (1 Peter 2:10). Worshipping together on Sunday mornings is an essential and joyful experience. Yet Christ has much more in mind for His church than can be contained in a church service. Growth groups enable you to be in community with other Christians throughout the week. As you gather regularly with other believers aside from Sunday morning, your idea of church starts to grow. No longer is church simply an event; it becomes the way you live out your identity in Christ all day, every day.

• You experience true fellowship.
Growth groups act as a church within a church. While you are connected to the entire congregation at Redeemer, your growth group becomes the part of the body with whom you are most familiar. This setting provides a context for you to know and be known. As you share with your brothers and sisters in your growth group, they will know how your job is going, what is happening with your kids, the state of your marriage, and what God has been doing in your life. The relationships you form in your growth group s way of filling the universal longing for community and maturing you as a disciple of Christ.

• Christian community leads to conversion.
Acts 2 describes the early church as meeting together frequently, breaking bread together, praying and caring for one another’s material needs (verses 42 and 45). What is the result of this kind of fellowship? “And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved” (verse 47). Growth groups give us a way to fulfill the Great Commission and make more disciples of Christ.
