Haruaki Odate | Intern
In 2013, Haruaki came from Japan with his family to study theology at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) in Jackson, MS. He recently finished his third year of the MDiv program and has one more year to complete it. He and his wife, Asami, have a three-year-old daughter, Hatsuho, which means "first fruit," and a nine month old son, Niji, meaning "rainbow." Before he came to the U.S., he worked in relief work ministry, which was organized by his pastor in Japan right after it was hit by a the tsunami and big earthquakes in 2011. At the same time, he was helping his friends' gospel music ministry by playing guitar for more than ten years. Currently, he is working as a music intern for Redeemer Church while studying at RTS. He leads Bible Study every Tuesday evening before choir rehearsal and also plays guitar for the worship service every Sunday morning and occasionally in the evening services or for weddings and funerals. He loves living in Jackson, learning theology from RTS professors, serving as a musician and intern for Redeemer, and above all he loves the culture and people in the area. He is thankful to God for leading him here and allowing him to pursue life as a minister.
